Detroit Tigers vs. Miami Marlins Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-29-2023

The Detroit Tigers face the Miami Marlins with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Tigers have a 46-57 record and are in third place in the American League Central Division. The Marlins have a 55-48 record and are in the wild card race but have started to slide with only two wins in their last 10 games. For the upcoming game, the Tigers will turn to Joey Wentz as their starting pitcher while the Marlins will turn to Johnny Cueto, who has only allowed five runs in the last three starts.

The Tigers are having a season to forget and hope to turn things around ahead of the trade deadline. Joey Wentz will start the upcoming game and he is having an awful season on the mound, allowing 57 runs in 71.2 innings pitched. Moreover, with a .503 expected opponent Slugging Percentage, an 11.2 Barrel Percentage, and a 5.83 expected ERA, opponents are making hard contact and crushing pitches against Wentz to easily drive in runs.

Along with Wentz struggling on the mound, the lineup has been one of the worst in baseball, scoring only 3.89 runs per game. Riley Greene is slashing .310/.373/.461 with 119 total bases while Kerry Carpenter is slashing .266/.326/.482 with 11 home runs and 96 total bases but the rest of the lineup has struggled. Only three batters have 10 home runs or more while only three have an OPS+ over 100 and opposing pitchers can eliminate the hapless lineup as a result.
