Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-5-2022

Detroit Tigers (51-82) vs. Los Angeles Angels (58-75)

The Detroit Tigers head to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, to start a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. It’s the second meeting of the season between these two American League foes, and the Tigers beat the Halos 2-1 in a three-game set at Comerica Park in Detroit back in August.

The Angels are slight home favorites to win Monday’s clash and will start Jose Suarez, while the Cats, who are 4-2 in their previous six outings away from home, will counter with Tyler Alexander. The totals are listed at 8.5 runs, and the total has gone under in four of the last five encounters between the Tigers and Angels.

At the time of writing, the Detroit Tigers played the Kansas City Royals to decide the winner of a three-game series at Comerica Park. The Tigers stopped their three-game slide last Friday, outlasting the Royals 5-4, but Saturday saw them stumble in a heavy 12-2 defeat to Kansas City. Detroit has allowed a whopping 45 runs in its previous six outings.

Tyler Alexander holds a 3-8 record with a troublesome 4.76 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 37/16 K/BB ratio in 11 starts and ten relief appearances (68 innings pitched) in 2022. The 28-year-old left-hander went 1-4 in August and posted a pedestrian 5.58 ERA and 5.17 FIP across 30.2 innings of work. He’s yielded two or more earned runs in seven straight appearances.

The Tigers’ bullpen sits at 3.45 ERA and 3.41 FIP for the season. But in the last seven days, the Tigers’ relievers have recorded an awful 6.11 ERA and 5.44 FIP through 28 frames of work. On the other side of the ball, Detroit is hitting an ugly .216/.282/.309 with three home runs in its last 162 at-bats. The Tigers own the lowest-scoring offense in the majors, tallying 3.29 runs per game.
