The Chicago White Sox play host to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night in an AL Central showdown from Guaranteed Rate Field. The Tigers are trying to make one last historic push within the division, while the White Sox have limped along to one of the worst records in the American League. Across eight meetings this season, each team has four wins, in what has been an exciting divisional series. In a game that could go either way, fans of both teams will surely be locked into this one.

The Tigers have been one of the surprises of baseball this season and even though it appears unlikely that they find their way into the postseason, they have plenty of talent to win this one. They enter Saturday sitting nine games back of the AL Central leader, sitting in an awkward spot when it comes to the last month. It would take a magical run for them to find the divisional title and they already are too far gone in the Wild Card race. If nothing else though, games like this one give them the opportunity to play meaningful baseball, which is crucial to the growth of a young team. Detroit has a nearly .500 record on the road this season, so being away from home doesn’t appear likely to impact this group.

According to MLB.com, it’ll be Reese Olson that’ll get the ball for the Tigers in this one. The youngster has struggled at t ime this season, as he enters with a 2-6 record and 5.10 ERA, both marks that leave something to be desired. In his June start against Chicago, he went 5.0 innings, allowing only two hits and two runs, as he looks to replicate that performance.

He’ll need to be sharp to pick up an offense that struggled to get going at times too. The Tigers only average just over four runs per game and are hitting .232 as a team, though the walk rate has been impressive. It doesn’t help that Austin Meadows (personal) remains out, while Javier Baez (back) is questionable. Given the lack of depth, this team can’t afford to be with Baez as the stretch run commences.
