The Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox wrap up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon in Chicago. The Tigers are comfortably in last-place in the AL Central Division while the White Sox are very much in the hunt for the Central Division crown, just behind both the Guardians and Twins. On the mound in Sunday's finale will be lefty Tyler Alexander (2-6, 3.83) of the Tigers against veteran right-hander Lance Lynn (2-5, 5.88) of the White Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10pm EST.
The Detroit Tigers have fallen into last place behind the Kansas City Royals and one look at the team's dismal performance at the plate is all anyone needs for an explanation. Since the all-star break, the Tigers have gone 6-16 and, in that time, the team batting average is a dismal .208. In the that same span, the Tigers are scoring just 3.3 runs per game. After dropping game one of the series to the White Sox on Friday night, the Tigers hoped for more production from their offense in game two. The Tigers started out strong, scoring three runs in the second and one in the third but were held in check the rest of the way in a 6-4 loss.

The Tigers bats have been silent but their depleted pitching staff has faired well since the all-star break. Detroit has a team ERA of 3.38 since the all-star break and has given up just 181 hits in 194.2 innings of work. On the mound in the series finale will be left-hander Tyler Alexander. Alexander will see increased time on the hill the rest of the way after the Tigers announce on Saturday that they have shut down ace Tarik Skubal due to arm issues. Alexander has made 17 appearances this season, including seven starts. He is coming off his best performance of the season against the Guardians. Alexander went seven innings and allowed seven hits and just two runs in a no-decision. Alexander has performed admirably in both his August starts, going a total of 12 innings and allowing nine hits and four earned runs.
