Detroit Tigers vs. Baltimore Orioles Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-20-2022

The Detroit Tigers continue their three-game set in Baltimore as they take on the Orioles in a series that likely has very little playoff ramifications. The Tigers are in last place in the AL Central and have a chance to lose 100 games in the season for possibly the 8th time in team history. The Orioles, on the other hand, will look to finish strong and earn their first winning season since 2016. On the mound in Tuesday night's second game will be lefty Joey Wentz (1-2, 4.15) of the Tigers taking on righty Austin Voth (5-2, 4.36) of the Orioles. Game time is set for 7:05pm EST.

The Detroit Tigers have had a miserable 2022 season as they continue their quest to return to the team's glory years. The Tigers made some moves in the offseason but they didn't quite pan out. They brought up some youngsters early on and that didn't quite turn the tide. So now, the Tigers late season goal may simply to stave off 100 losses for the season. The Tigers did make a big step towards the future on Monday by announcing that former SF Giants GM Scott Harris will take over as the club's President of Baseball Operations. On Monday night, in the opener vs. the O's, the Tigers offense exploded for 11 runs in a 11-0 win. They had 14 hits including five hits and five RBI from the bottom three hitters in the order.

Harris will certainly have his work cut out for him in the coming years in trying to build a winner in Detroit. The Tigers have struggled with quality player development in recent years although they did add some key elements this year including slugging 1B/3B Spencer Torkelson and CF Riley Green. Harris will hope the duo become the foundation for future success in Detroit. Another possible future piece will take the hill on Tuesday night as 24 year-old lefty Joey Wentz gets the start. The 6'5″ starter has made four starts this season and thrown 17 innings and allowed 14 hits while striking out 15 and walking four batters.
