The Detroit Red Wings face the Washington Capitals with both teams looking to improve on rocky seasons. The Red Wings have a 26-21-8 record and are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division but have won seven of their last 10 games. The Capitals have a 28-24-6 record and with four losses in a row have fallen to the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. Both teams are looking to improve in the Eastern Conference playoff picture and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Red Wings are having a promising season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.09 goals per game with 23 goals in the last five games. Dylan Larkin, Dominik Kubalik, and David Perron have scored 52 goals and 74 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Andrew Copp, Michael Rasmussen, and Jonatan Berggren have combined for 25 goals and 51 assists while defenseman Filip Hronek and Moritz Seider have added 12 goals and 54 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has let them down, allowing 3.20 goals per game. Filip Hronek and Jake Walman have combined for 6.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Additionally, goaltender Ville Husso has struggled with a .904 save percentage and a 2.95 goals-against average on 11 89 shots with -1.6 goals saved above average.
