The Red Wings have looked promising this season behind an offense that scores 3.50 goals per game. Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin have scored 26 goals and 29 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Lucas Raymond, J.T. Compher, and Daniel Sprong have combined for 23 goals and 39 assists while defensemen Moritz Seider and Shayne Gostisbehere have added 10 goals and 32 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has let them down, allowing 3.25 goals per game with 4.44 goals per game in December. Ben Chiarot and Jake Walman have combined for 2.8 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Additionally, with a surplus of injuries to the goaltending unit, the Red Wings will turn to Michael Hutchinson, who has yet to play this season , to start the upcoming game.
