A pair of Eastern Conference teams are on the hardwood looking to put one in the win column as they clash in South Beach. The Detroit Pistons are on the road as they make the trip to face the Miami Heat Tuesday night. Detroit played Memphis at home on Sunday night in their previous contest, falling 122-112 as a 6.5-point underdog. Miami was in action on Monday night as they caught that same Memphis team on the road so they close a back-to-back set here. The Heat dropped the Celtics 120-116 in overtime on the road in their previous contest Friday night. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Heat own a 65-56 advantage and took three of the four meetings last season. That includes a 105-98 home win in the most recent matchup on March 15, 2022.

Detroit has predictably struggled this season as injuries and a young group of players have led to a series of issues when it comes to putting games in the win column. The Pistons entered Monday last in the Central Division with a 6-19 record, leaving them 11.5 games behind the Bucks for the top spot. Against Memphis, Detroit trailed 7-0 1:46 into the game and that set the tone. The Pistons trailed by 14 after the opening quarter and could get no closer than four after that as the Grizzlies did the job on the offensive end of the floor to keep the hosts at bay. Detroit shot 44% from the field, including 13 of 35 from three-point range, and was beaten 46-39 on the glass. Saddiq Bey led the Pistons with 24 points, six rebounds and seven assists in the loss.

On the year, the Pistons are 23rd in the league in scoring offense as they average 110.1 points a game. Detroit is 23rd in r ebounding with an average of 42.5 boards per contest and 27th in assists by dishing out 21.9 dimes a night. The Pistons are 29th in the league in scoring defense as they give up an average of 118.2 points per contest. Bojan Bogdanovic is leading the team in scoring for the Pistons as he puts up 20.6 points per game. Cade Cunningham (19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, six assists), Jaden Ivey (15.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists), Alec Burks (13.9 points), Saddiq Bey (14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds), Marvin Bagley III (12.9 points, 6.8 boards) and Isaiah Stewart (12 points, 8.9 rebounds) have been decent secondary options. Isaiah Livers, Jalen Duren, Cory Joseph, Hamidou Diallo, Killian Hayes and Kevin Knox II are looked at to be contributors for coach Dwane Casey. Detroit is 28th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 44.7% from the floor as a team. The Pistons are 22nd in the league in threes per game as they hit 11 triples per contes t while they are 21st in three-point percentage as they connect on 33.8% of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Livers (shoulder) suffered an injury on December 1 against the Mavericks and is expected to miss some time according to coach Dwane Casey. Cunningham (shin) hasn’t played since November 9 and his return date is up in the air as he could require surgery to deal with the injury. It’s safe to say that he won’t be taking the floor here.
