A pair of Western Conference teams looking to head into the weekend with some momentum take the floor in Bluff City. The Denver Nuggets are on the road as they make the trip east to face the Memphis Grizzlies Friday night. Denver opened their season with a 119-107 home victory over the Lakers Tuesday night, covering the line as a five-point favorite. Memphis opened their 2023-24 slate with a 111-104 home loss to New Orleans Wednesday night, losing outright as a one-point favorite. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Nuggets own a 62-40 advantage and took two of the three matchups last season. That includes a 113-97 home win in the most recent matchup on March 3, 2023.

Denver received their championship rings Tuesday night ahead of their game with the Lakers, then took care of business as they beat Los Angeles soundly at home. The Nuggets now look to keep that momentum going as they make their first road trip of the season here. Against Los Angeles, Denver closed the opening quarter on a 16-4 run to take a 34-20 lead after 12 minutes and led the rest of the way. The Nuggets led by as many as 18 in the opening half, by nine at halftime and by seven after three quarters. Denver saw their lead trimmed to three at 92-89 with 9:42 to play before going on an 11-2 run to extend to a 103-92 advantage with 6:16 remaining. The Nuggets never let the Lakers closer than seven the rest of the way en route to the win.

For the contest, the Nuggets shot 52.7% from the field, including knocking down 14 of their 34 attempts from three-point range, while holding the Lakers to 45.6% s hooting in the contest. Nikola Jokic led five Denver players in double figures as he recorded a triple-double with 29 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists in the victory. Jamal Murray contributed 21 points plus six assists, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 20 points while Aaron Gordon put up 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Michael Porter Jr. rounded out the quintet of double-digit scorers as he put up 12 points and 12 rebounds in the game. One thing that the Nuggets need to get more production from is their bench as the starters outscored the reserves in their season opener by a 97-22 margin.
