Delaware vs. Hampton Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-26-2023

Delaware will try to bounce back from an overtime loss to Drexel when it travels to Hampton on Thursday night. The Blue Hens have lost three of their last four games and are in danger of falling to the .500 mark overall this season. Hampton finally snapped its 10-game losing streak with an 83-66 win over Monmouth on Saturday.

Delaware closed the non-conference portion of its schedule by winning five out of six games, including a win over Davidson. The Blue Hens have lost six of their nine games since then, riding a four-game road losing streak. They picked up an 80-53 win against William & Mary last Thursday before losing to Drexel in overtime on Saturday. Delaware was a 6-point favorite in its blowout win over William & Mary, and it was a 3-point underdog in the 77-74 loss to Drexel. The Blue Hens have dropped to ninth place in the Colonial Athletic Conference standings, sitting at 3-5 in league play.

They have not been a great offensive team this season, ranked No. 276 in 3-point percentage (31.9) and No. 287 in offensive rebounding percentage. Delaware’s strength has been its low turnover rate, as it is No. 60 in that statistic. The Blue Hens are one of the most experienced teams in college basketball, ranked No. 35 in that category. They are facing a Hampton defense that has been horrendous, sitting outside the top 295 in field goal percentage, turnover rate and rebounding. Junior guard Jameer Nelson Jr. leads Delaware with 19.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Sophomore forward Jyare Davis (16.8) and senior guard LJ Owens (10.0) are both scoring in double figures as well.
