Dayton vs. Massachusetts (UMASS) Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-22-2023

Dayton (18-9 SU, 13-14 ATS, 10-4 A-10) travels to New England to take on UMass (14-13 SU, 12-15 ATS, 5-10 A10) on Wednesday night at 7pmET.

This is the first meeting of the season of these programs. Last season, Dayton won both games and covered once.

As we're headed towards the postseason and March Madness, the Atlantic 10, unfortunately, appears to be a conference left with just one bid. The A-10 Tournament should be wide open with VCU (11-3) leading the league right now with Dayton and Saint Louis tied for second at 10-4. At 74 in the NCAA Net Rankings and 0-2 against Quad 1 teams, Dayton has not put up a strong enough resume' to earn an at-large berth. The Flyers head into this game having won three straight with big wins over VCU on the road and the Billikens at home. In their last game on Friday, they pounded Loyola-Chicago 65-49. Daron Holmes scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Flyers, while Toumani Camara added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

What Dayton does better than most teams in the A-10 is defend. They rank first in the conference in points allowed at 60.7 points per game, first in three-point defense (28.2%) and first in field goal defense (39%). But they are also first in field goal offense at 46.9% and first in rebounding margin (+6.1). Their one Achilles' heel is turnovers as they rank 14th in turnover margin (-2.33).

Holmes leads the Flyers with 17.6 points per game with 8.1 rebounds with 1.8 blocks on 59.2%. shooting(35.7% 3pt). Camara adds 14.1 points and 9.1 rebounds on 54.5% shooting. Forward R.J. Blackney, who is averaging 7.1 points on 47.4% shooting, is listed as questionable with an undiscloed issue.
