The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly planning to release longtime running back Dalvin Cook. While the transaction has yet to be made, NFL odds are already surfacing with potential landing spots for the four-time Pro Bowler. Here are our picks and predictions for Dalvin Cook's next team based on the odds from our best sports betting apps.

The Dalvin Cook era is coming to an end in Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Vikings reportedly told the six-year veteran running back that he'll be released Friday if the team fails to find a trade partner, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Cook is coming off four consecutive 1,100-plus-yard seasons that ended with trips to the Pro Bowl. He ranks third all-time in Vikings franchise history in rushing yards and fourth in rushing touchdowns. But he'll turn 28 before the 2023 season begins, a nd the veteran is scheduled to make $11 million and count for $14.1 million against the salary cap. His release will clear $9 million in cap space for the Vikings.

Still, Cook remains one of the most productive backs in football and should receive significant interest on the open market.

Here are our best picks for Dalvin Cook's next team, based on available odds.

Dalvin Cook next team predictions

Cook's release has been rumored for months, and there's no team more speculated as his next landing spot than the Miami Dolphins.

The ties are obvious. Cook is from the Miami area and went to school at Miami Central High School and Florida State University. The Dolphins also came close to a deal for Cook back in March, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel – a disciple o f San Francisco 49ers offensive guru Kyle Shanahan – has vowed to put a greater emphasis on the run game this season after neglecting it in 2022. Though the Fins own a crowded backfield with Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., De'Von Achane, Salvon Ahmed, and Myles Gaskin, Cook would vault to the top of that depth chart if he were brought aboard.

The Vikings played the Dolphins in Week 6 during the 2022 season, and Cook was very emotional about returning to his hometown.

“If you really from Miami, you really don't leave Miami. That's just how it is,” he said, according to Will Ragatz of FanNation. “Just having the opportunity for me to have a bigger platform, to be in the NFL, and to show kids down in Miami there's something bigger than just the inner city in Miami, the projects and the down areas. It's bigger pictures out here.

“You can go be a star NFL player, yo u can go get a scholarship in college. You can go do all those things if you put your mind to it.”

Cook may have hinted at a potential return home with his Instagram story that followed news of his impending release.

There's nothing quite like joining a division rival and playing your former team two times each season. Just ask Za'Darius Smith, Frank Clark, and Bobby Wagner, NFL stars who were released in recent campaigns and used the slight to sign with a hated rival. Cook wouldn't need to take a pay cut to follow suit.

The Chicago Bears currently boast the most available cap space, according to Over the Cap. After opting against a reduction in pay to stay with the Vikings, expect salary to play a large role in where Cook signs next.

The Bears are also one of the few teams at this point of the offseason that still could use an upgrade at the position. D'Onta Foreman and Khalil Herbert are currently the top backs in Chicago, and neither compares to Cook.

Chicago is one of the teams Cook has faced the most during his career, along with Green Bay at nine appearances each. The Bears franchise is well aware of Cook's abilities, even during the back half of his career.
