It’s a Central Division clash on the ice as a pair of teams do battle in the Gateway City. The Dallas Stars are on the road as they make the trip to take on the St. Louis Blues Saturday night. Dallas was in action at home against Ottawa Friday night in the front half of a back-to-back set that closes here. The Stars doubled up the Red Wings 6-3 at home in their previous contest Monday night. St. Louis was in action Thursday night as they hosted Ottawa in the first game under interim coach Drew Bannister after Craig Berube was fired Tuesday night, earning a 4-2 victory. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Stars own a 6-3-1 advantage and have won the last four meetings. That includes a 2-1 shootout win at home in the first meeting this season on October 12.

Dallas was in action Friday night at home against Ottawa looking to build off their win Monday night against the Red Wings. The Stars entered Friday night 16-8-3 and stood third in the Central Division, three points behind the Avalanche for the top spot. They were three points ahead of Nashville for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Dallas stands 8th in the league in goals per game as they average 3.44 goals per contest on the year. The Stars stand tied for 13th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.07 goals a night this season. Dallas is 7th when it comes to success on the power play as they convert on 25% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Stars are fourth in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 86.7% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Detroit Monday night, Dallas sputtered ear ly but got their offense going to eventually bury the Red Wings in a deluge of goals. The Stars were outshot 9-8 in the opening period of play but skated to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard. After giving up the opening goal of the game, Miro Heiskanen tied the game with his second goal of the season, on the power play, at 13:35 off assists from Jason Robertson and Jamie Benn. Just before the period ended, Esa Lindell gave the Stars the lead with his second goal of the season at 19:59 off assists from Sam Steel and Jani Hakanpaa. In the second period, Dallas owned a 12-10 shot advantage and outscored Detroit 2-1 to take a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of play. Robertson made it a 3-1 game with his ninth goal of the year at 11:16 off assists from Lindell and Roope Hintz. Matt Duchene extended Dallas’ lead to 4-1 with his seventh of the season at 13:30 with assists going to Joel Hanley and Tyler Seguin. The Stars gave up a goal later in the period to trim the marg in to two. In the third period, Dallas owned a 15-11 shot edge and again outscored Detroit 2-1 to put the game away. After the Red Wings tallied to make it a one-goal game, Joe Pavelski scored his 12th goal of the season, on the power play, at 13:51 off assists from Hintz and Heiskanen for a 5-3 lead. Heiskanen closed the scoring with his second goal of the night and third of the season, into an empty net, at 19:18 with Steel drawing the lone assist. Jake Oettinger made 27 saves for the Stars, who held a 35-30 edge in shots on goal, in the win. With Oettinger going Friday night, it’s likely that Scott Wedgewood gets the call between the pipes here.
