The Dallas Stars are on the road as they make the trip to take on the New York Islanders Sunday night. Dallas was in action on the road Saturday night against the Devils in the Garden State. The Stars were dropped 5-1 on the road by Philadelphia in their previous contest Thursday night. New York was beaten 4-3 in overtime by Chicago on the road in their previous contest Friday night. That includes a 2-1 shootout win on the road in the most recent matchup on January 10, 2023. Dallas was in action on Saturday night as they faced off with the Devils in the Garden State in the front half of a back-to-back set that closes here. The Stars entered Saturday night 26-13-5 and stood third in the Central Division, seven points behind the Jets for the top spot. They were six points ahead of Nashville for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Dallas stands 3rd in the league in goals per game as they average 3.61 goals per contest on the year. The Stars stand 15th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.05 goals a night this season. Dallas is 11th when it comes to success on the power play as they convert on 23% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Stars are tied for third in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 84.6% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

In their previous game against Philadelphia, Dallas struggled in their own end of the ice and it ended up costing them the game. The Stars were outshot 14-1 in the opening period of play and trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. Dallas was outshot 16-8 in the second period with both teams scoring once, leaving them down 2-1 at the second intermission. After falling behind 2-0 early in the period, Tyler Seguin got the Stars on the board with his 17th goal of the season at 12:42 off an assist from Matt Duchene. The third period saw Dallas outshot by a 13-6 margin and they were outscored 3-0 to wind up on the wrong end of a blowout. Jake Oettinger made 38 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 43-15, in the loss. Scott Wedgewood is projected to get the start between the pipes for this contest.
