The Stars entered Saturday night 26-13-5 and stood third in the Central Division, seven points behind the Jets for the top spot. They were six points ahead of Nashville for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Dallas stands 3rd in the league in goals per game as they average 3.61 goals per contest on the year. The Stars stand 15th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.05 goals a night this season. In their previous game against Philadelphia, Dallas struggled in their own end of the ice and it ended up costing them the game. The Stars were outshot 14-1 in the opening period of play and trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. Dallas was outshot 16-8 in the second period with both teams scoring once, leaving them down 2-1 at the second intermission. After falling behind 2-0 early in the period, Tyler Seguin got the Stars on the board with his 17th goal of the season at 12:42 off an assist from Matt Duchene. The third period saw Dallas outshot by a 13-6 margin and they were outscored 3-0 to wind up on the wrong end of a blowout. Jake Oettinger made 38 saves for the Stars, who were outshot 43-15, in the loss. Scott Wedgewood is projected to get the start between the pipes for this contest.
