A pair of Western Conference teams are on the ice north of the border as they do battle in the province of Alberta. The Dallas Stars are on the road as they make the trip north to take on the Edmonton Oilers Thursday night. Dallas rode a strong third period to down Columbus 5-3 at home Monday night in their previous contest. They were in action on the road against the Flames Wednesday night, so they play a back-to-back situation here. Edmonton rolls in off a 5-2 win in the Heritage Classic, an outdoor game held at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, over Calgary Sunday in their previous game. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Stars own a 5-4-1 advantage though the Oilers won the last two meetings. That includes a 4-1 home win in the most recent matchup on March 16, 2023.

Dallas bounced back from a loss to Toronto as they downed Columbus at home Monday night for their fourth win in five games. The Stars entered Wednesday 5-1-1 on the season and stood second in the Central Division standings, one point behind the Avalanche for the top spot in the division. Dallas stands tied for 18th in the league in goals per game as they average three goals per contest on the year. The Stars stand 5th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 2.43 goals a night this season. Dallas is 30th when it comes to success on the power play as they convert on 9.5% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Stars are 2nd in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 95.5% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Columbus, Dallas had a big third period and that allowed them to put the game in the win colum n. The Stars held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period but trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes of play. Thomas Harley opened the scoring just 27 seconds into the game with his second goal of the season off assists from Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz. The Stars gave up two goals later in the stanza to trail on the scoreboard. Evgenii Dadonov made it a 4-2 game with his second of the year at 12:39 off assists from Wyatt Johnston and Jamie Benn. Johnston extended to a 5-2 advantage by hitting the empty net at 16:21 for his third goal of the season off assists from Dadonov and Jamie Benn. The Stars gave up one goal late to narrow the margin but closed things out to earn the victory. Jake Oettinger made 22 saves for Dallas, who held a 33-25 advantage in shots on goal, in the victory. Scott Wedgewood is expected to get the start in goal for this contest.
