Dallas won their final three games heading into the All-Star break and went 6-1-1 in their previous eight games as they downed Washington at home. The Stars entered Monday night 30-13-6 and stood second in the Central Division, one points behind the Avalanche for the top spot. They were 12 points ahead of St. Louis to remain in a guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Dallas stands 3rd in the league in goals per game as they average 3.69 goals per contest on the year. The Stars stand tied for 14th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.06 goals a night this season. Dallas is 13th when it comes to success on the power play as they convert on 22.6% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Stars are sixth in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 82.9% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Washington, Dallas was in a high-scoring affair but came up with the winner in overtime to skate into the break with a victory. The Stars held an 11-7 edge in shots on goal in the opening period and held a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard after the opening 20 minutes of play. After giving up the opening goal of the period to trail 1-0, Wyatt Johnston tied the game with his 14th goal of the season off assists from Roope Hintz and Miro Heiskanen at the 10:44 mark. Only 23 seconds later, at 11:07, Thomas Harley gave the Stars the lead with his 11th goal of the season off assists from Jamie Benn and Sam Steel. In the second period, Dallas owned a 15-6 shot edge with both teams scoring once, leaving the Stars up 3-2 after 40 minutes of action. After giving up the tying goal, Mason Marchment gave the Stars a 3-2 lead with his 16th goal of the season, on the power play, at 11:00 off assists from Tyler Seguin and Miro Heiskanen. In the third period, Dallas was outshot 15-8 and outscored 2-1 to send the game to overtime tied at four at the end of regulation. Matt Duchene made it a 4-2 game with his 17th goal of the season at 2:24 off assists from Marchment and Seguin. The Stars gave up a pair of goals in the final two minutes of regulation to even things up and force overtime. During the extra session, Dallas had the lone shot on goal and it lit the lamp to give Dallas the victory. Harley scored his second of the night and 12th of the season at 3:27 off assists from Jason Robertson and Duchene to give the Stars the win. Jake Oettinger made 24 saves for Dallas, who held a 35-28 edge in shots on goal, in the victory. Scott Wedgewood is expected to get the call between the pipes here.
