The Dallas Mavericks are on the road as they travel to take on the Atlanta Hawks Friday night. Dallas comes in off a 132-109 home loss to Phoenix in their previous contest Wednesday night, failing to cover the line as a 2.5-point underdog. Atlanta was clobbered 134-112 on the road by Golden State Wednesday night, failing to cover the line as a 6.5-point underdog, in their previous game. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Hawks own a 47-37 advantage and have won the last two meetings. That includes a 132-130 overtime home win in the most recent matchup on April 2, 2023.

Dallas suffered their third straight loss and their fourth in the last five games as they were beaten soundly at home by Phoenix Wednesday night. The Mavericks entered Thursday night 24-20 on the year and stood second in the Southwest Division, two games behind the Pelicans. They were eighth in the Western Conference, seven games behind Minnesota for the top spot, two games behind the Pelicans for the final guaranteed playoff spot and 3.5 games ahead of the Rockets to remain in the play-in tournament field. Against Phoenix, Dallas used a 13-1 spanning the first and second quarters to turn a three-point edge into a 15-point bulge before things came crashing down. The Mavericks were up just one at the half only to be called for a technical foul before even inbounding the ball to start the second half. That triggered a 25-5 Suns run that left Dallas down 19 and they never recovered. The Mavericks shot 46.1% from the field, including 17 of 43 f rom three-point range, and allowed the Suns to shoot a blistering 60% in the contest. Luka Doncic led Dallas with 34 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in the loss.

This season, the Mavericks are 8th in the league in scoring offense as they put up an average of 118.1 points per game. Dallas is 24th in the league in rebounding as they collect 41.8 boards a night while they are 23rd in assists by dishing out 25.2 dimes per contest. Derrick Jones Jr. (10.3 points), Josh Green, Dereck Lively II, Jaden Hardy, Dwight Powell, Maxi Kleber, Seth Curry and Dante Exum are rotation depth pieces for Jason Kidd. Dallas is 17th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 47.1% from the field as a team on the year. The Mavericks are 2nd in the league in threes per game as they hit 15.2 triples per contest while they are 15th in three-point shooting by hitting 36.9% of their attempts from beyond the arc.
