The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Dallas Mavericks at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night.
The Dallas Mavericks kicked off their season with a tough loss to the Snus, but they will be eager to stay hot in this one after blowing away the Grizzlies in a 137-96 home win on Saturday. Luka Doncic had the hot hand early and led the way with 32 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists, Christian Wood added 25 points, 12 rebounds and three assists off the bench while Tim Hardaway Jr. chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Mavericks shot 50 percent from the field and 17 of 39 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 39 points in the first quarter thanks to a scoring barrage from Doncic and never looked in danger.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans will be hoping to bounce back after having their two-game win streak halted by the Jazz in a painful 122-121 overtime home loss on Sunday. CJ McCollum led the team with 28 points and 12 assists, Zion Williamson added 25 points on 10 of 16 shooting while Trey Murphy chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Pelicans shot 47 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the 3-point line as they clawed all the way back from an early 17-point deficit to force overtime, only to finish painfully short as the Jazz’s Kelly Olynyk drained the go-ahead basket with 3.1 seconds remaining.
