The Chicago White Sox are facing a pivotal decision regarding the future of their franchise and whether manager Tony La Russa will come back from his medical absence in 2023. There's a lot of doubt surrounding his return following the team's underwhelming play this season, which means the franchise could be conducting its second managerial search in the past three years.
On the other side of town is Chicago Cubs third base coach Willie Harris, who once interviewed for the open White Sox job back in 2020.
Naturally, Harris' name has swirled in these latest rumors, and he opened up about the possibility of taking that job on Wednesday.

It's quite clear Harris is excited about another opportunity to manage an MLB club. “Hopefully, my name's in their thoughts. And we'll see what happens from there,” he said.

Harris spent four years of his 12-year career playing for the White Sox and was a member of the 2005 World Series team. He's managed Chicago's Single-A affiliate, as well as the San Francisco Giants' Double-A squad.
There has been no official decision on La Russa's future or reaching out to Harris as a possible choice, but that hasn't stopped the thought from crossing his mind.
“I love it here where I am, but definitely if you get a chance to become a manager, you want that opportunity. I don't know what their plans are. You have to wait and see. I think I've done everything I'm supposed to do. I 9;ve checked all the boxes. Went through the minor leagues. I've done everything. My resume speaks for itself. I feel like I'm ready for the opportunity."
