Creighton vs. San Diego State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-26-2023

The sixth-seeded Creighton Bluejays battle the fifth-seeded San Diego State Aztecs Sunday afternoon in the South Region final. Creighton advanced as they took down 15th-seeded Princeton 86-75 Friday night, covering the line as a 10-point favorite. San Diego State stunned top-seeded Alabama 71-64 in their Sweet 16 matchup Friday night, winning outright as a 6.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the teams, the Bluejays own a 4-3 advantage, including a 72-69 overtime win in the most recent matchup, which came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 17, 2022.

Creighton took down Princeton Friday night in the Sweet 16 to reach the Elite Eight for the first time in the program’s history. The Bluejays, who ran their record to 24-12 overall on the season and 14-6 in the Big East, now look to reach the  Final Four for the first time. Against Princeton, Creighton led by as many as eight in the first half, trailed by three and closed the first half on a 12-5 run to take a 47-43 advantage at intermission. The Bluejays open the second half on a 21-9 run to take a 68-52 lead with 12:33 to play and never let the lead drop below seven the rest of the way. Creighton shot 58.2% from the field, including nine of 24 from three-point range, and won the rebounding battle 37-26. Ryan Kalkbrenner led the Bluejays with 22 points in the victory.

The Bluejays put up an average of 77 points per game so far this season, putting them 56th in the nation in s coring offense. Creighton grabs 37 boards a night while dishing out 15.9 assists per contest. The Bluejays are above average on the defensive end of the floor as the team ranks 140th in scoring defense by allowing 68.7 points a game. Fredrick King, Francisco Farabello, Mason Miller, Ben Shtolzberg and Shereef MItchell each are key rotation pieces for the team. The Bluejays are shooting 47% from the floor on the year. Creighton connects on a solid 35.8% of their attempts from beyond the arc and splashes 8.8 three-pointers a game. The Blue Jays are above average at the charity stripe, converting a sizzling 78.1% of their chances as a team, which puts them 11th in the nation in that category.
