Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Philadelphia Flyers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-11-2023

The Columbus Blue Jackets (24-47-8 SU, 8th in Metropolitan Division) make the trip to Pennsylvania to take on the Philadelphia Flyers (29-38-13 SU, 7th in Metropolitan Division) on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers have won two of the last four games versus the Blue Jackets, including a 5-3 victory at the Wells Fargo Center.  Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett each scored twice for Flyers and goalie Carter Hart turned away 30 of the Blue Jackets’ 33 shots on net to secure the win for Philadelphia. The Flyers had 39 shots on goal.  Neither team took advantage of their one power play.

Columbus coach Brad Larsen on the loss:

“Tonight, I don't think we managed the puck well. We were sloppy and it cost us. Right up to the last play. We had pockets of decent moments, but we were a step slow, and we just couldn& #39;t connect.”

The Blue Jackets have lost three straight games overall and are 1-2 in their previous three home games.  The Flyers have lost seven straight overall and have lost two of their last three at home.

The puck drops at 7:05 PM ET.

The Blue Jackets have lost three straight games, including a 4-0 shutout loss to the New York Rangers (47-21-12 SU, 3rd in Metro Division) at home on Saturday. Goalie Igor Shesterkin turned away all 20 Blue Jackets shots for his third shutout of the season.  Jimmy Vesey, Chris Kreider, Niko Mikkola and Vincent Trocheck all scored for the Rangers.  Columbus outshot New York 12-9 in the first period but trailed 2-0 early and never mounted a comeback bid. The Rangers had 28 shots on net.  Neither team took advantage of their two power plays.

Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen on the loss:

“They hold on to the puck — they make you defend a lot. It’s hard to create when they’re holding on and they won’t give it back. Three or four goals, we turned the puck over. You can’t do that against that group. They’r e very dangerous.”

Columbus’ offense ranks low in several key categories, including 30th in goals per game (2.6) and 28th in shooting percentage (8.4%). The defense ranks 12th in goals allowed per game (2.77) and 24th in save percentage (89.1%).

Goalie Elvis Merzikins and defenseman Nick Blankenburg are both out for the Blue Jackets.
