The Columbus Blue Jackets face the Florida Panthers with both teams looking to improve on rocky starts to the season. The Blue Jackets have a 4-5-2 record and losing five of their last six games has them in near the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. The Panthers have a 5-4-1 record and with a 5-2 loss, they have the second-worst record in the Atlantic Division. The Blue Jackets are having a rough season with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.55 goals per game with only 13 goals in the last six games. Boone Jenner, Adam Fantilli, and Jack Roslovic have scored nine goals and 10 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only three skaters have three goals or more and opposing defenses can limit the hapless offense as a result.

Damon Severson, Zach Werenski, and Erik Gudbranson have combined for 1.8 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Elvis Merzlikins has struggled with a .905 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average on 232 shots with only 0.1 goals saved above average.
