Colorado Sportsbooks See Uptick In Super Bowl Betting

The Colorado Division of Gaming reported nearly $46.4 million worth of wagering on Super Bowl LVIII, with sportsbooks posting a hold of 14%.

Handle increased 22% from 2023, when Centennial State operators accepted nearly $38 million worth of wagers involving last year’s Super Bowl. The state agency reported a sports betting handle of $29.2 million on the day of the game this year, with the other $17.1 million in wagers coming from future bets. That split in terms of percentage remained consistent from last year.

Mobile wagering was up significantly compared to last year, with the $45.3 million digital handle up nearly 25%. Conversely, retail wagering tailed off significantly as the $1 million-plus handled at brick-and-mortar venues was down 37% from Super Bowl LVII.

The other big difference this year was operator performance, as the 25-22 overtime victory by the Kansas City Chiefs over the San Francisco 49ers provided a better outcome for the house than their 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. Based on the 14.4% hold provided by the Division of Gaming, sportsbooks won nearly $6.7 million in gross revenue. That is 82.5% higher than 2023, when the house claimed $3.7 million in winnings thanks to a 9.6% win rate.
