Colorado Rockies (56-93) vs. San Diego Padres (72-78)

The 2023 Major League Baseball season goes on Tuesday, September 19, with the Colorado Rockies taking on the San Diego Padres in the NL West battle at Petco Park in San Diego, California, and the first pitch is set for 9:40 PM ET.

Colorado meets San Diego for the second of a three-game series at Petco Park, and Monday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. The Padres have won six of their previous ten encounters with the Rockies in 2023.

The Colorado Rockies had won five consecutive games prior to Sunday’s 11-10 defeat to the San Francisco Giants. After taking two out of three contests from the Chicago Cubs, the Rockies won a four-game home set against the Giants.

Over the last seven days, the Rockies are slashing a sturdy .290/.357/.473 with 14 extra-base hits and seven home runs across 207 at-bats, but keep in mind that they are coming off a seven-game homestand. On the pitching side of things, the Rocks have compiled a 4.33 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and .269 batting average against during that stretch.

The Rockies haven’t decided who’ll get the starting call Tuesday and might opt for a bullpen day. In that case, Karl Kauffmann should take the high workload, and the 26-year-old rookie right-hander is 2-4 with a hideous 7.28 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 13/14 K/BB ratio in three starts and six relief appearances this season. Kauffmann actually pitched well last Saturday, allowing one unearned run on two hits and three walks across four frames in a winning effort against the Giants. The Rockies bullpen has recorded an underwhelming 4.95 ERA and 4.68 FIP over the last ten days and 40 innings pitched.
