Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-3-2022

The Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres will wrap up their 4-game series on Wednesday night in San Diego. The series, however, has taken a backseat to the Padres blockbuster trade that brought them both superstar Juan Soto and teammate Josh Bell on Tuesday morning. The pitching matchup on Wednesday will feature Chad Kuhl (6-6, 4.59) of the Rockies taking on lefty Blake Snell (3-5, 4.43) of the Padres. First pitch is scheduled for 940pm EST.

The Colorado Rockies, much like their season in the NL West, will take a backseat to one of the NL West powers on Wednesday night as the baseball world awaits the arrival of the newest Padres to Petco Field. The Rockies are in the midst of battling for last place in the division as the rich get richer atop the NL West. On Monday night, the Rockies dropped the opener of the series 4-1 as the team failed to dent the Padres formidable pitching. On Tuesday in the day/night doubleheader, the Rockies fell 13-5 in the opener as the Padres pounded out 19 hits in the win. In the second game, the Rockies scored two runs in the first and then were shut out the rest of the way and lost on a walk-off home run in the 9th.

The Rockies appear destined for a finish in the second division of the NL West division in 2022. The Rockies possess below average pitching and not enough depth in their everyday lineup to compete in the highly competitive NL West. For the season, the Rockies are 13th in runs per game but that is due in large part to the team's 5.6 runs per game at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Things have been only slightly better on the mound as the Rockies have struggled to find consistency with their starting five. On the mound on Wednesday night in the series finale will be perhaps the team's most consistent starter, Chad Kuhle. Kuhle is tied for the team lead in wins, second in quality starts and has the top ERA amongst starters. The month of July was not kind to Kuhl, however. The right-hander went 1-1 in the month with an ERA of 8.71 in five starts. Kuhl faced the Padres once and had a no-decision going 4.2 innings and allowing 7 hits and 3 runs.
