Colorado snapped an eight-game skid Thursday night as they blanked the Phillies in the opening game of this set. The Rockies improved to 6-14 on the season and stand in the basement of the NL West, five games behind the Diamondbacks for the top spot. On Thursday, Colorado finished with seven hits as C.J. Cron (two runs, two RBI) was the lone player with multiple hits in the contest. Cron hit his fifth homer of the season in the opening inning to stake the Rockies to a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Ryan Feltner (1-2) earned the win on the mound as he threw 5.2 scoreless frames, allowing three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Kyle Freeland takes the hill for his fifth start of the season for the Rockies in this contest. He comes in 2-1 with a 3.80 ERA, a 1.266 WHIP, six walks and 12 strikeouts over 21.1 innings of work on the year. Freeland took the loss in his last start, which came at home against the Pirates Monday night. He threw 2.2 innings, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout in a game the Rockies eventually dropped 14-3.
