Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-28-2022

This Sunday the (54-73) Colorado Rockies and the (81-46) New York Mets will play the final game of this four-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 1:40 PM EST inside Citi Field. The last time that these two teams matched up, the Mets took two of three games.

The Colorado Rockies are coming into this one after splitting a short two-game series with the Texas Rangers. The Rockies looked great in game one but ended up surrendering 16 runs to the Rangers in game two. Their starting pitching will have to be better in this one if they want to avoid another outing like that.

The New York Mets entered this series after being swept in their short two-game series against the New York Yankees. The Mets failed to get anything going at the plate, as they only scored four combined runs in those two games. They will need to be better at the plate in this one if they want to finish this series stro ng.

This game was written/published before last night's results.

The Colorado Rockies are 3-7 in their last 10 games played, as they have continued to struggle this season. They are also still in last place in the NL West and they are 14.0 games behind the San Diego Padres for the third and final NL Wild Card spot. The postseason looks unlikely for Colorado, but they will still do everything they can to try and make a push. At the plate, the Rockies are scoring 4.61 runs per game and they are hitting .263 as a team. This is the ninth most runs scored per game and the second-highest overall team batting average. They have shown that they can consistently reach base, but they have continued to strand base runners when they are in scoring position. Colorado also has very little power inside their lineup, as they are only hitting .92 bombs per game. This is the 23rd lowest average in the league, as the Rockies have been forced to string together multiple hits in order to score. They also stay unaggressive on the base paths, as they have only stolen 35 bases this season. This is the second least amount of bases taken, as the Rockies don't have much speed inside their lineup.

According to MLB.com, Colorado will be starting German Marquez on the mound. He is currently 6-10 with a 5.22 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. In his last start he pitched for 6.0 innings, but still gave up eight hits and six earned runs. The Rangers hit him hard, as he didn't have it rolling in that one. Marquez has also struggled on the road this season, as he is 4-5 with a 4.11 ERA. Unfortunately, the Rockies bullpen has also had troubles this season. They are allowing 4.80 runs per game, which is the third most in the MLB. As a team, the Rockies are allowing 5.64 runs per game, which is the most in the MLB.
