Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 6-15-2023

The Colorado Rockies (20-40, 34-35 RL, 29-39-1 O/U) do battle with the Atlanta Braves (42-26, 30-38 RL, 38-28-2 O/U) in the first of a four-game NL series on Thursday evening. The Rockies will be sending Kyle Freeland to the hill. The Braves will counter with AJ Smith-Shawver. The Braves went 6-1 against the Rockies last season.

Kyle Freeland will make the start to begin the series. Freeland was outstanding in his previous outing, limiting the Padres to one run in five innings but had no help from the Rockies’ offense in a no-decision. The young left-hander is having a solid year, conceding two or fewer runs in three of his last four outings, and has recorded a 3.91 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP accompanied by a 4-7 record in 76 innings. Freeland held the Braves to one run in seven innings last season and has posted a 4.75 ERA and a 1-2 record in six career meetings.

The Rockies had recently endured a rough six-game losing streak which they snapped last Sunday in a win against the Padres and have now won three in a row entering Wednesday night. It’s been a rough season for a team that relies heavily on the bats to win games. The problem this year is the lack of power, hitting just 56 homers on the season.

Ryan McMahon continues to deliver, amassing five RBIs and an excellent .951 OPS this month. The 28-year-old second baseman leads the Rockies with 37 RBIs accompanied by an .832 OPS. McMahon went just 4 for 24 with one RBI against the Braves last season. CJ Cron remains on the IL.

Colorado is scoring an average of 4.48 runs on the year, landing them 16th. The pitching staff continues to be exploited, reporting a 5.12 team ERA, pegging them 28th.
