The Colorado Avalanche face the Philadelphia Flyers with both teams heading in opposite directions to start the season. The Avalanche have a 13-8-1 record and are near the top of the Central Division while the Flyers have an 8-12-5 record and with only one win in their last 10 games, have fallen to the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. The Avalanche are looking to continue to improve in the Western Conference while the Flyers look to climb out of the bottom of the division, making the upcoming a pivotal one for both teams.

The Avalanche are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.32 goals per game with seven goals in the last two games. Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen have scored 22 goals and 42 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Artturi Lehkonen, Valeri Nichushkin, and J.T. Compher have combined for 17 goals and 25 assists while defensemen Cale Makar and Devon Toews have added seven goals and 30 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has also stepped up, allowing only 2.77 goals per game. Cale Makar and Erik Johnson have combined for 2.9 defensive point shares and 76 blocked shots while Devon Toews, Josh Manson, and Bowen Byram have combined for 3.0 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. Additionally, goaltender Alexandar Georgiev has been great in the net with a .9 22 save percentage and a 2.58 goals-against average on 502 shots.
