The Colorado Avalanche have had win streaks of four games and then three games in the last two weeks around a pair of losses. On Wednesday night, the Avalanche were up 3-2 entering the final period against the Vancouver Canucks but allowed two goals to take a 4-3 loss to end their latest win streak at three games. Colorado's Mikko Rantanen had two first period goals and Cale Makar added a goal in the second period for the Canucks. Goalie Pavel Francouz stopped 22 shots in the loss. The loss was Colorado's third at home this season after losing just five in total last year at home.

The Avs are playing banged up at the moment with C Evan Rodrigues, D Kurtis MacDermid, C Shane Bowers, C Bowen Byram, LW Gabriel Landeskog, LW Darren Helm and RW Valeri Nichushkin are all out at the moment. With their reduced lineup, the Avs have yet to get the same kind of stranglehold that they had last season in the Western Conference. Still, the Avs are 9th in goals per game and first in power play% despite missing so many forwards. The Avs are also fourth in goals against average.
