Colorado will try to beat Arizona for the second time in three days when the teams square off on Sunday afternoon. The Avalanche picked up a 3-1 victory when these teams met on Friday, winning for the seventh time in eight games. Arizona went winless in a three-game road trip earlier this week, falling to 27-34-12 overall this season.
Colorado got off to an 11-5-1 start this season, but it went through a rough patch from the end of November to the middle of January. The Avalanche were sitting at 20-17-3 at that point before getting back on track over the past two months. They went on a six-game winning streak earlier this month, with three of those wins coming by at least four goals. Their hot streak was snapped in a 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, but they bounced back with a 3-1 win over Arizona on Friday. Colorado will be on the road for six of its next eight games as the regular season winds down.

The Avalanche are in third place in the Central Division of the Western Conference, but it is only two points behind Dallas and one point behind Minnesota. They scored a pair of goals in the third period on Friday night, as defenseman Cale Makar returned from a two-game absence with a goal and two assists. Nathan MacKinnon matched that output as well, extending his point streak to 11 games. Evan Rodrigues moved to the top line before entering concussion protocol after taking a hit against Chicago on Monday that held him out of the next two games. He was on the ice for Saturday’s practice and could be back in the lineup on Sunday. Goalie Alexandar Georgiev has a 33-15-5 record, a 2.53 GAA and a .919 save percentage. Colorado ranks No. 14 in the NHL in goals per game (3.25) and is facing an Arizona defense that is No. 24, allowing 3.43 goals per game.
