College Football Predictions Week 2: Picks & Odds
College Football Predictions Week 2: Picks & Oddsiv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

The first full week of college football didn't disappoint, with several contenders by the College Football Playoff odds losing their opener.

Using our top college football betting sites, we're breaking down another loaded slate with our college football Week 2 odds and predictions.

The biggest game of the week is a showdown between two college football championship odds contenders, with Texas taking on Michigan.

But that's not the only interesting matchup featuring an AP Top 25 program. Alabama looks to handle business against South Florida after struggling last year with the Bulls.

The headline-grabbing game is the rematch between Nebraska and Colorado. Shedeur Sanders is a Heisman Trophy odds favorite, but the Cornhuskers have a talented young QB of their own.

  • When: Friday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Memorial Stadium (Bloomington, Ind.)
  • How to watch: Big Ten Network
  • Moneyline: OFF
  • Spread: OFF
  • Total: OFF

With no line available yet for this matchup, Indiana is likely to be a massive favorite – we're talking as much as 45 points. Western Illinois was 0-11 last season and opened 2024 with a 54-14 loss to Northern Illinois. Meanwhile, the Hoosiers' new coaching staff are coming off a 31-7 win against FIU behind the arm of Kurtis Rourke.

  • When: Friday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Gerald J. Ford Stadium (Dallas)
  • How to watch: ESPN2
  • Moneyline: BYU (+330) | SMU (-425)
  • Spread: BYU +10.5 (-110) | SMU -10.5 (-110)
  • Total: 56 (-110/-110)

SMU is already a double-digit favorite in the showdown of Mormons and Met hodists. The Cougars won their opener against an FCS team, but are expected to be one of the worst Big 12 programs this season. The Mustangs on the other hand are 2-0 with two capable QBs. I expect SMU to be closer to -11.5 by kickoff.

  • When: Friday, Sept. 6 (9 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium (Evanston, Ill.)
  • How to watch: FS1
  • Moneyline: Duke (+120) | Northwestern (-142)
  • Spread: Duke +3 (-115) | Northwestern -3 (-105)
  • Total: 36.5 (-112/-108)

Northwestern stumbled into having one of the most picturesque stadiums in college football, but its offense was ugly in Week 1. Still, Duke struggled with Elon in Manny Diaz's first game in charge. With David Braun's defense, I think this line will hover between -2.5 and -3.5 all week with the total dropping even lower.

College football odds for Saturday

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (noon ET)
  • Where: Michigan Stadium (Ann Arbor, Mich.)
  • How to watch: FOX
  • Moneyline: Texas (-285) | Michigan (+230)
  • Spread: Texas -7.5 (-110) | Michigan +7.5 (-110)
  • Total: 43.5 (-110/-110)

This is the game of the week with both teams ranked in the top 10. But Texas blew out Colorado State in Week 1 while Michigan struggled against Fresno State. Even with the Bulldogs being much better than the Rams in the Mountain West, the Wolverines' offense was alarming. The line could balloon to as much as -9.5 for the Longhorns by Saturday.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (3:30 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Notre Dame Stadium (Notre Dame, Ind.)
  • How to watch: NBC, Peacock
  • Moneyline: OFF
  • Spread: Northern Illinois +28.5 (-112) | Notre Dame -28.5 (-108)
  • Total: 45.5 (-108/-112)

Do n't sleep on Northern Illinois as a MAC Championship odds contender, especially with how Thomas Hammock's team looked in Week 1. While Marcus Freeman's defense is legit and new QB Riley Leonard is an X-factor with his running, Notre Dame is coming off a physical win against Texas A&M. If this line moves, I think it will be in NIU's direction.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (3:30 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Rice-Eccles Stadium (Salt Lake City)
  • How to watch: FOX
  • Moneyline: Baylor (+470) | Utah (-650)
  • Spread: Baylor +14 (-110) | Utah -14 (-110)
  • Total: 53 (-110/-110)

It might be Dave Aranda's last season if he can't get things turned around at Baylor. So playing a conference game against the Big 12 Championship odds favorite in Week 2 is a tall task. Cam Rising returned to Utah's lineup last week and diced up Southern Utah. I think this line could move a point or two more toward the Utes.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (3:30 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Kinnick Stadium (Iowa City, Iowa)
  • How to watch: CBS, Paramout+
  • Moneyline: Iowa State (+114) | Iowa (-135)
  • Spread: Iowa State +2.5 (-108) | Iowa -2.5 (-112)
  • Total: 35.5 (-108/-112)

The battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy will be a good one with both of these teams expected to have top-notch defenses this season. New Iowa offensive coordinator Tim Lester helped the Hawkeyes look functional on offense last week, but that was against an FCS program. Iowa State is better than its Week 1 performance against North Dakota. This line shouldn't move.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (3:30 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Kroger Field (Lexington, Ky.)
  • How to watch: ABC
  • Moneyline: South Carolina (+285) | Kentucky (-360)
  • Spread: South Carolina +1 0 (-108) | Kentucky -10 (-112)
  • Total: 42.5 (-112/-108)

Both these teams had bizarre Week 1 games. South Carolina nearly lost to Old Dominion and new starting QB LaNorris Sellers looked putrid. Kentucky beat Southern Miss 31-0 with most of the second half canceled due to weather. Mark Stoops' team should bully the Gamecocks, but this line likely won't see much movement – maybe a half point in either direction.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (7 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium (Tuscaloosa, Ala.)
  • How to watch: ESPN
  • Moneyline: OFF
  • Spread: South Florida +31 (-110) | Alabama -31 (-110)
  • Total: 63.5 (-112/-108)

Last year Alabama beat South Florida by a modest 17-3 score, and Jalen Milroe was the third-string QB for the game. Now Milroe's a Heisman contender and Kalen DeBoer is coaching the Crimson Tide. The Bulls have a star QB in Byrum Brown, but their defense is going to be an issue. Alabama beat Western Kentucky 63-0 in Week 1. This line could be -34 by kick.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (7:30 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, Neb.)
  • How to watch: NBC, Peacock
  • Moneyline: Colorado (+215) | Nebraska (-265)
  • Spread: Colorado +7.5 (-115) | Nebraska -7.5 (-105)
  • Total: 57.5 (-112/-108)

When Colorado beat Nebraska 36-14 in Boulder last season it was at the height of Deion Sanders mania. But the Cornhuskers should be much more competitive in Matt Rhule's second season. Led by freshman QB Dylan Raiola, Nebraska killed UTEP last week while the Buffaloes struggled with North Dakota State. However, I think this will be more like -6.5.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (10 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Gesa Field (Pullman, Wash.)
  • How to watch: F OX
  • Moneyline: Texas Tech (+105) | Washington State (-125)
  • Spread: Texas Tech +2 (-112) | Washington State -2 (-108)
  • Total: 65.5 (-112/-108)

It's the Mike Leach bowl in Pullman between two teams that scored a lot and allowed a lot of scoring to FCS programs in Week 1. Texas Tech needed OT and a 2-point conversion stop to beat Abilene Christian. Washington State beat Portland State 70-30. Cougars QB John Mateer can toast the Red Raiders in a high-scoring game. This could move to -3 by kick.

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 7 (10:30 p.m. ET)
  • Where: Mountain America Stadium (Tempe, Ariz.)
  • How to watch: ESPN
  • Moneyline: Mississippi State (+200) | Arizona State (-245)
  • Spread: Mississippi State +6.5 (-112) | Arizona State -6.5 (-108)
  • Total: 59.5 (-110/-110)

These are supposed to be two of the worst Power 4 teams in the country this season. Arizona State's dealing with all kinds of sanctions and Mississippi State is rebuilding under new coach Jeff Lebby. The Sun Devils are coming off a surprising blowout of Wyoming and should remain between -5.5 and -6.5.
