College basketball schedule today has 21 games

We’ve got almost nothing but conference play on the Tuesday card. Saint Mary’s and North Carolina Central play lower-division opponents, but the 21 games with all Division I teams are all conference clashes. It’s that time of year. Save for some showcase games, it will be nothing but conference play the rest of the way. Personnel changes and coaching changes can render games from previous seasons meaningless, but rosters with a lot of carryover from last season may still be relevant, so factor that into your handicapping.

Here are some thoughts on the January 3 card (odds from DraftKings):

Kansas Jayhawks (-1.5, 141) at Texas Tech Red Raiders

This is one of those “I’ll pay to see it” games. If Texas Tech beats Kansas, so be it, but the Red Raiders have played three top-50 teams this season and lost by 11 to Creighton, 7 to Ohio State and 6 to TCU last time out. Their two worst defensive games have been against Creighton and Ohio State and their worst offensive games came against TCU. According to Ken Pomeroy, Texas Tech has played the 338th-ranked schedule in the nation, with the 298th-ranked slate of offenses and 348th-ranked slate of defenses.
