College basketball schedule today has 14 games

We head into the weekend and most colleges and universities that haven’t started winter break will begin that after exams finish up on Friday. We’re going to have bare bones crowds for lots of games until the calendar flips to 2023, so if you’re making your own numbers or think about home-court advantage, you may want to scale that back a good bit. We’ve got a few more games on the docket at least for today.

Here are some thoughts on the December 16 card (odds from DraftKings):

Southern Jaguars at Youngstown State Penguins (-8, 152.5)

We should have a really fast-paced game at the Beeghly Center between Southern and Youngstown State. These are two top-70 teams in tempo according to Ken Pomeroy and this game shouldn’t lower their respective rankings. Southern plays in the SWAC, a conference where taking care of the basketball isn’t exactly a priority. As a result, the Jaguars play a high-pressure style of defense and foul a lot. Xavier was into the bonus before the Under-16 timeout in the second half of Tuesday’s game.
