Coastal Carolina is 1-2 in bowl games and will be going to their fourth straight bowl game. They've finished the season strong, winning five of their last seven games. However, they lost their last two games including a non-conference contest to Army on the road (28-21) as a 1-point favorite and they were crushed at home by JMU 56-14 as an 8.5-point dog. They did most of that without star QB Grayson McCall, who missed the last six weeks due to a serious concussion suffered in late October. The Chants wound up finishing 5-3 in the Sun Belt, which tied them with ODU in the East Division.

Redshirt freshman Ethan Vasko, who has thrown for 580 yards with four TDs and one pick, while rushing for 318 yards and two TDs, is expected to get the start. He did start against JMU, Texas State (31-23 win) and ODU (28-24 win).

McCall helped lift this program to new heights and is transfer ring to NC State. However, he was not having a strong season before the injury. He completed 67.4% of his passes for 1,919 yards with just 10 TDs and six picks in seven games.  The top target for Coastal has been wide receiver Sam Pinkney, who has an NCAA record with 57 straight games with at least one catch. He also has 64 catches for 904 yards and seven TDs. They lost their second-leading receiver Jared Brown (58 catches for 740 yds, 4 TDs) to the transfer portal along with starting linebacker J.T. Killen 65 tackles, 1 INT).

Defensively, the Chants are very opportunistic as they rank 13th in the nation in defensive touchdowns (3rd) and 14th in interceptions (13th) and 17th in turnovers gained (21). Overall, they allow 380.3 yards per game, 211.5 passing yards and 168.8 rushing yards (100th). On offense, the Chants average 422.9 yards per game (40th), 266.8 passing yards (33rd) and 156 rushing yards per game.
