James Madison's 21-19 loss to UL Monroe last week was surprising not just because the Dukes were more than two-touchdown favorites, but because its offense was stifled in the process.
Dukes quarterback Alonza Barnett was the first quarterback since Joe Burrow in his Heisman year to lead a team to 63-plus points in back-to-back games.
While James Madison turned the ball over on each of its last two possessions and totaled just 30 yards on its last 13 plays in crunch time last we ek, it is still an offense that churned out 399 total yards (and out-gained UL Monroe by 143 yards) in the loss.
It should be able to exploit the Chanticleers' weaknesses.
Coastal Carolina's strength on defense is a secondary that entered last week ranked 27th in Pass Success. However, the Chanticleers are a poor tackling team that entered Week 6 ranked 127 in PFF's tackling grade and was also outside the top 110 in Rush Success Allowed, Line Yards, and Havoc.
The Chanticleers are one of the most run-heavy teams in the country, not a bad formula for success given that they entered last week ranked 41st or better in Rush Success and Line Yards.
However, in its last three victories, JMU's defense has held its opponents to 3.7, 2.3, and 3.1 yards per carry. Plus, Coastal Carolina quarterback Ethan Vasko only topped a 59 QBR once in the three games he attempted 21 or more passes before last week.

James Madison running back Tyler Purdy is going to concede a lot of touches to leading rusher George Pettaway and quarterback Alonza Barnett, as each has more than double the amount of carries Purdy has.
But Purdy is the goal line back of this offense, and he has been counted on in several pressure situations, as his two touchdowns have come in both JMU games decided by seven or fewer points.
Both of Purdy's scores have been from one yard out, but he has still managed a respectable 4.8 yards per carry and even had double-digit carries in a game this season.
