Chicago was swept in their two-game interleague set in the Crosstown Classic as they fell 10-7 Wednesday night at home. They were 5.5 games behind the Blue Jays for the final wild card spot in the American League. On Wednesday, Jose Ramirez (three runs, three RBI) had three of Cleveland’s nine hits while Gabriel Arias (run) added two in the game. Ramirez (his 15th and 16th) homered twice in the victory while David Fry clubbed his fourth homer of the year. Nick Sandlin (5-3) earned the win as he threw one inning, allowing one run on two hits with no walks and one strikeout.

T he Guardians have yet to officially name a starting pitcher for this contest. There is the possibility that the recently acquired Noah Syndergaard could make his 13th start overall and first with Cleveland after being acquired in a deal with the Dodgers that sent Amed Rosario to the City of Angels. He is 1-4 with a 7.16 ERA, a 1.446 WHIP, nine walks and 38 strikeouts over 55.1 innings of work on the year. Syndergaard didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came against the Reds on the road back on June 7. He threw three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a game the Dodgers eventually dropped 8-6. In his last three starts, Syndergaard is 0-1 with a 10.93 ERA, a 1.79 WHIP, three walks and eight strikeouts over 14 innings of work. Syndergaard makes his fourth career appearance and third start against the White Sox in this contest. He is 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA, a 0.848 WHIP, two walks and 20 strikeouts over 15.1 i nnings of work against them. Syndergaard didn’t factor in the decision in his lone career start at Guaranteed Rate Field, which came with the Mets on July 30, 2019. He threw 7.1 innings, allowing one run (none earned) on five hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts in a game the Mets won 5-2 in 11 innings.
