Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-23-2022

The Cleveland Guardians (46-44, 47-43 RL, 43-43-4 O/U) battle the Chicago White Sox (46-46, 42-49 RL, 42-44-5 O/U) in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. The Guardians will give the nod to Tristan McKenzie seeking his eighth victory. The White Sox will reply with either Johnny Cueto or Lance Lynn. The Guardians lead the season series by a 6-3 mark.

The Guardians will have Tristen McKenzie make his 18th start of the season. McKenzie was brilliant in his previous start, tossing eight shutout innings against the Tigers and earned the win to improve his season record to 7-6. The talented young right-hander has recorded 21 consecutive shutout innings and features a stellar 3.20 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP in 101.1 innings pitched on the season. McKenzie held the White Sox to one run in 4.1 innings in the only meeting this season and is 0-2 with an 8.63 ERA in 24 career innings against the rivals. 

The Guardians had a strong finish before the break, winning all three games against the Tigers. The offense has been more productive than expected by many while the pitching depth continues to be on display. Cleveland is only 2.5 games out of a Wildcard spot.

Josh Naylor has been outstanding against the White Sox this season, bashing three big flies with 12 RBIs and a 1.1 OPS. The 25-year-old first baseman is having a breakout year, collecting 13 bombs with 47 RBIs and an .835 OPS. Naylor is sporting a 1 OPS this month. 

Cleveland is scoring an average of 4.34 runs per game, ranking them 16th overall. The pitching staff has recorded a 3.87 team ERA, good for 15th in the Major Leagues.
