Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Dallas Mavericks Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 12-27-2023

The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night from the American Airlines Center. These two enter this one with only one game separating them, as Dallas sits in 5th in the West and Cleveland is 7th in the East. Last season, Cleveland swept the two game series between the two, as they look to replicate that success this go-around. Adding in that both teams are coming off wins the last time out and this quickly looks like one that fans will want to be tuning in for.

Cleveland has been one of the better teams in the NBA on the road this season and will put their 8-6 road record on the line in this one. Having just taken down the Bulls with relative ease on the road the last time out, the Cavs will certainly have some momentum and confidence to draw from that performance. Likely more instrumental will be this group leaving on dominating this series across a pair of games last season. While flying under the radar for the most part this season in the eyes of the national media, they’ve still put together a record that would have them sitting pretty in the playoffs for now. A pair of challenging games loom, only adding to the importance of finding the road win in this one.

The wins have come for this team despite some concerning injuries thus far. They have seven players listed on the injury report as they head into Wednesday, with four ruled out and a fifth doubtful. Evan Mobley and Darius Garland both continuing to miss time has been a difficult blow, while the status of Donovan Mitchell, will have to be monitored as well. Coming into this one as questionable, Cleveland can’t afford to be missing his scoring punch as well.

As mentioned, offense remains a major concern for this group. Garland and Mobley already represent a sizable chunk of the scoring that’ll be missing, while Mitchell is one of the league’s best scorers himself. The offense ranks in the middle third in most categories anyway, which highlights the lack of depth behind those three. The good news is that the defense has taken massive strives forward this season and actually seem to be the leading unit for this team. Keeping Dallas frustrated remains the key, especially as they navigate injuries, as it’s clear they’ll need help in that department.
