They were fourth in the Eastern Conference, 6.5 games behind Milwaukee for the top spot and 6.5 games clear of Miami to remain in a guaranteed playoff spot. Against Brooklyn, Cleveland trailed by seven after the opening quarter before outscoring the Nets 38-25 in the second quarter to take a six-point edge at the half. The Cavaliers led by as many as 24 midway through the third quarter, by 16 after three quarters and by 22 with 7:17 remaining before going cold. They did manage to hang on for the win despite the Nets closing to within five in the final minute. Cleveland shot 50.6% from the field, including 14 of 29 from three-point ran ge, and forced 16 turnovers in the victory. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 31 points in the win.

The Cavaliers come into this one ranked 25th in the league in scoring offense as they put up an average of 112.2 points per game this season. Cleveland is 25th in rebounding as they grab 41.3 boards per contest and stand 18th in assists by handing out 24.9 dimes a contest this year. The Cavaliers are 1st in the league in scoring defense as they allow an average of 106.6 points per game this season. Donovan Mitchell leads the way in the scoring department for Cleveland as he puts up 27.4 points plus 4.6 assists a night on the year. Cedi Osman (8.8 points), Evan Mobley (16.2 points, 8.9 boards), Jarrett Allen (14.3 points, 9.9 rebounds) and Caris LeVert (12 points, 3.9 rebounds, four assists) each are solid secondary options. Robin Lopez, Darius Garland (21.9 points, 7.8 assists), Dean Wade, Raul Neto, Ricky Rubio, Isaiah Mobley and Isaac Okoro are other contributors in the Cavaliers’ rotation. Cleveland is 6th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 48.9% from the floor as a team on the year. The Cavaliers are 19th by knocking down an average of 11.5 three-pointers a night while they are 13th by connecting on 36.4% of their attempts from beyond the arc.
