Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-12-2023

The Cincinnati Reds (16-21, 21-16 RL, 20-17 O/U) and the Miami Marlins (19-19, 14-24 RL, 16-20-2 O/U) open a three-game NL series on Friday night. The Reds will give the nod to Graham Ashcraft. The Marlins will send rookie Eury Perez to the mound. The Reds won last year’s season series 4-3.

Graham Aschcraft will take the mound to begin the series. Ashcraft was obliterated in his latest outing, surrendering eight runs in only 1.2 innings against the White Sox, and was hit with the loss to dip to 2-1. The young starter has been the Reds' most consistent pitcher with the exception of that last performance. Despite that outing, he is sporting a 3.82 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP accompanied by a 2-1 record in 37.2 innings on the season. Ashcraft has dominated the Marlins, conceding only three runs in 15 career innings.

The Reds begin a six-game road trek in this one. They have lost two of their last three series after posting two victories in three home meetings against the Mets this week. The pitching held the Mets to only eight runs.  The squad has struggled on the road this season, collecting just one series win, occurring in Oakland late last month.

Wil Myers returned to the lineup this past weekend after a quick stint on the IL. The former Padre has not yet been able to find a groove with his new squad, bashing three homers with 10 RBIs and a poor .592 OPS. Myers went 2 for 6 against the Marlins last season.

Cincinnati is posting an average of 4.30 runs per game, ranking them 20th. The pitching staff has recorded a 5.10 team ERA, pegging them 25th.
