Chris Jones Contract: Restructured Salary With Chiefs

Defensive tackle Chris Jones has been in Kansas City for eight years. That time includes a four-year rookie contract worth $6.23 million and signed in 2016, as well as a four-year extension (bridged by the franchise tag) worth $80 million and signed in July 2020.

Heading into the 2023 season, Jones was looking for a multi-year extension that would both keep him inked in Kansas City for longer, but also pay him the updated premium that his performance suggests he deserves.'

When Jones and the Chiefs couldn't come to an agreement, he began to hold out. That holdout ended on Sept. 11, when he signed a restructured agreement for the final live year of his contract in Kansas City.

Jones has said many times over the last two years that he wants to be a lifelong member of the Chiefs. But with free agency looming, and a potential $100 million payday on the horizon elsewhere, few would blame Jones for taking a bigger payday elsewhere. The Chiefs just don't have the same available cap room that other teams do.'
