Chicago White Sox vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-7-2022

The Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon in Seattle. The White Sox are still very much in the hunt for both the AL Central Division title and one of the three AL wildcard spots despite hovering around .500. The Mariners are well out of the race for the AL West crown but are firmly in the wildcard race with less than a month to go in the season. The pitching matchup for Wednesday will likely feature a bullpen game for the White Sox with Davis Martin (2-4, 4.09) likely getting the call to throw the majority of innings while the Mariners will counter with All-Star Luis Castillo (6-5, 2.71). First pitch is scheduled for 4:10pm EST.

The White Sox are very much in the AL Central Division hunt as they try and repeat as AL Central champions for the first time in team history. The White Sox started this critical series with playoff hopeful Seattle on a good note with a 3-2 win thanks to an outstanding 7-inning performance by Lance Lynn that included 11 strikeouts. On Tuesday night, the White Sox left nine men on base in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Mariners to knot the series at a game apiece heading into today's finale.

The White Sox are 5-5 in their last ten games heading into Tuesday night's game. They have been able to hang around the division race due to the struggles of both Cleveland and Minnesota over the last few weeks. In the team's last five wins, the White Sox have gotten superior pitching as they've allowed just eight runs total in the five wins. With starter Michael Kopech still on the 15-day IL, the White Sox will turn to a bullpen game on Wednesday night. Righty Davis Martin will likely again get the bulk of the innings after pitching five effective innings against the Twins last week following reliever Joe Kelly's perfect first inning. Martin threw a tidy 69 pitches in five innings and allowed just three hits and no runs. He has yet to face the Mariners this season.
