Chicago White Sox vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-19-2023

The Colorado Rockies play host to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night in a game two showdown from Coors Field. Both of these teams coming without playoff hopes, barring a miracle, so it’ll be interesting to see what this game has in store. Chicago has the third-worst record in the AL and even with all their talent, have limped along. Colorado sits in last place in the NL West themselves, though the excuse of playing in one of the most competitive divisions in baseball. These two split four games last season and it looks like this year’s version of the matchup will be even too.

In another season in which there were high hopes for the White Sox, they will be missing the playoffs yet again. With a 48-74 record, they've been terrible in the second half of the season. They've gone 4-6 over their last ten games and with a dreadful 23-41 record on the road this season, there haven't been many positives for this team to turn toward. The good news on the weekend, is that they are playing one of the few teams worse than them in the standings, though with little driving home their inspiration over these last few weeks of the season, fans remain unsure of the quality they'll see in this one.

According to MLB.com, Jesse Scholtens will get the ball for the White Sox, as he has been putting together an interesting season. With a 1-5 record, his ERA has driven home his success, sitting at 3.20. It's interesting to see those two marks be opposite indications of success. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last ten appearances and will be hoping that the offense doesn't let him down again in this one.

Offensively, the White Sox have struggled as well, even despite all the talent in the lineup. They're only averaging 4.1 runs per game, which is one of the worst marks in baseball, while hitting only .234 as a team. Being without Eloy Jimenez (groin) and Tim Anderson (suspension) isn't likely to help matters on Saturday either. Luis Robert Jr. (.270 average, 32 home runs, 66 RBI) has been the lone bright spot for the offense and without much help, the struggles are expected to continue for this group as they hit the road.
