Chicago won for the eighth time in their last 11 games as they battered Oakland’s pitching staff en route to a one-sided win. The Cubs improved to 9-6 on the season entering Tuesday and stood tied for second in the NL Central, two games behind the Brewers for the top spot. On Monday night, Chicago finished with 20 hits as Cody Bellinger (run) led the way with five while Seiya Suzuki (run, RBI) and Patrick Wisdom (two runs, four RBI) each had three. Wisdom (his seventh and eighth) homered twice in the victory. Hayden Wesneski (1-0) earned the win on the mound as he threw seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Justin Steele is on the hill for the Cubs as he logs his fourth start of the season in this contest. He comes in 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA, a 0.842 WHIP, six walks and 19 strikeouts over 19 innings of work on the year. Steele earned the win in his last start, which came Friday on the road against the Dodgers. He threw seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in an 8-2 Chicago triumph. Steele, in his 48th career major league appearance and 37th start, pitches against the A’s for the first time here. As a result, this marks his first career outing at the Ring Central Coliseum as well.
