The Chicago Blackhawks face the Pittsburgh Penguins with both teams on opposite ends of the standings to end the season. The Blackhawks have a 25-48-6 record and have the worst record in the Western Conference while the Penguins have a 40-30-10 record and with back-to-back wins, they remain a few points out of playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Both teams are looking to end the season on a high note and the upcoming game should be a good one.
The Blackhawks are having a season to forget and their offense has been one of the worst in the league, scoring only 2.42 goals per game. Taylor Raddysh and Andreas Athanasiou have combined for 38 goals and 34 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only five active skaters have 10 goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.
The offense has been awful but the defense has also let the Blackhawks down, allowing 3.65 goals per game. Connor Murphy and Caleb Jones have combined for 5.4 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has been awful, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. Additionally, goaltender Petr Mrazek has struggled with a .892 save percentage and a 3.71 goals-against average on 1208 shots with -14.2 goals saved above average.
