A pair of Original Six rivals take the ice in an interconference tilt in the Motor City looking to pick up two points. The Chicago Blackhawks are on the road as they take the relatively short jaunt to take on the Detroit Red Wings Thursday night. Chicago comes in off a 4-3 home win over Seattle in their previous contest Tuesday night. Detroit earned a 4-1 home victory over Minnesota in their previous contest Monday night. They faced off with the Rangers on the road Wednesday night in the front half of a back-to-back set. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Blackhawks own a 6-4 advantage though it was Detroit earning a 4-3 home win in the most recent matchup back on March 8, 2023.

Chicago won for the second time in three games as they took down Seattle at home Tuesday night in their previous contest. The Blackhawks entered Wednesday eighth in the Central Division with a 7-13-0 record and stand 16 points behind the Avalanche for the top spot. They were 12 points back of Winnipeg for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Chicago is 29th on the season when it comes to scoring production as they average 2.65 goals per game. The Blackhawks are tied for 28th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.65 goals per contest. Chicago is tied for 30th in power play success as they convert 9.2% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Blackhawks are 20th in the league in penalty killing as they successfully kill off 78.5% of their shorthanded situations this season.

Against Seattle, Chicago jumped in front early, saw the Kraken tie the game, then took the lead again and held on in a game that they never trailed. The Blackhawks were outshot 14-10 in the opening period and went to the locker room tied at two after 20 minutes of action. Boris Katchouk opened the scoring with his second goal of the season at 8:54 off assists from Ryan Donato and Seth Jones. Only 89 seconds later, Jason Dickinson potted his seventh goal of the season at 10:23 off assists from Isaak Phillips and Joey Anderson to make it a 2-0 game. The Blackhawks allowed a pair of goals later in the stanza to knot the score. In the second period, the shots were even at 10 with Chicago outscoring Seattle 2-0 to take a 4-2 lead. Tyler Johnson gave Chicago a 3-2 lead with his sixth goal of the season at 4:22 off assists from Taylor Raddysh and Lukas Reichel. MacKenzie Entwistle extended to a 4-2 advantage with his second goal of the year at 10:43 off an assist from Anderson. In the third period, the Blackhawks were ou tshot 12-3 and outscored 1-0 though they hung on to earn the win. Petr Mrazek made 33 saves for Chicago, who held a 36-23 edge in shots on goal, in the win. He is expected to get the start in goal for this contest.
