A pair of struggling teams take the ice in an interconference battle in the Buckeye State in search of two points. The Chicago Blackhawks are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday night. Chicago comes in off a 3-2 home loss to Buffalo in the second game of a back-to-back set Sunday night in their previous contest. Columbus was downed 5-2 on the road by Philadelphia in their previous contest Sunday night in the second game of a back-to-back situation. Chicago lost their fourth straight game as they were beaten by Buffalo at home in their previous contest Sunday night. The Blackhawks entered Tuesday eighth in the Central Division with a 5-11-0 record and stand 15 points behind the Stars for the top spot. Chicago is 30th on the season when it comes to scoring production as they average 2.50 goals per game. The Blackhawks are tied for 24th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.50 goals per contest. Chicago is 29th in power play success as they convert 11.3% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Blackhawks are 19th in the league in penalty killing as they successfully kill off 77.4% of their shorthanded situations this season.

Against Buffalo, Chicago played tough in the second game of a back-to-back situation but came up short. The Blackhawks saw the shots even at eight in the opening period and trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, Chicago owned a 12-6 advantage in shots and outscored Buffalo 2-1 to leave the game even at two at the second intermission. Taylor Raddysh tied the game with his third goal of the season at 3:28 off assists from Philipp Kurashev and Nick Foligno. After Buffalo regained the lead, Kurashev tied the game with his fourth goal of the season at 17:28 off assists from Connor Bedard and Lukas Reichel. In the third period, the shots were even at six but Chicago gave up the only goal to wind up with the loss. Petr Mrazek made 17 saves for the Blackhawks, who held a 26-20 edge in shots on goal, in the defeat. He is expected to get the call between the pipes again here.
