After being featured as part of an NHL Opening Night tripleheader, the Chicago Black Hawks get right back at it on Wednesday night and travel to Boston to take on the Bruins. The Blackhawks finished with the NHL's worst record in 2022-23 but, with that, earned the right to draft future superstar Connor Bedard with the #1 overall pick. The Bruins come into this season following the greatest regular season in NHL history in 2022-23 but a first-round playoff loss. The puck drops at 7:30 PM EST.

The Chicago Blackhawks will not make the playoffs in 2023-24. That is not a prediction but rather a spoiler. They will, however, be one of the most watched teams in the NHL this season thanks to the arrival of the NHL's next big thing, Connor Bedard. The can't-miss kid will be the focal point of the league for much of the next two decades and the Blackhawks hope he will be the driving force to bring the Cup back to Chicago. The Blackhawks front office didn't leave the rookie forward all on his own. They have added veterans like forwards Ryan Donato, Nick Foligno, Taylor Hall and Corey Perry to give him some players to play off of and to learn the ropes from. On Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, the Blackhawks overcame a 2-0 deficit with goals from Donato in the second, assisted by Bedard for his first NHL point, and Cole Guttman in the third period. Jason Dickinson then scored on the power play with under five minutes to play to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead. Nick Foligno added a fourth goal and the Blackhawks picked up a 4-2 opening night win to kick off the Bedard Era in Chicago.

With the worst record in the league last season, the Blackhawks were near the bottom of the standings in most important categories. The Blackhawks finished last in scoring and were in the bottom five in power play percentage. The arrival of Donato and Hall along with Bedard should improve those numbers this season. Defensively, the Blackhawks finished in the bottom five in goals against last season and were 19th in save percentage. Don't expect much improvement in those areas this season with the Blackhawks doing very little in the offseason to improve their blue line.

Injury Report: C Luke Philp and LW Samuel Savoie are on injure reserve.
