Chicago Bears vs. Indianapolis Colts Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-19-2023

Week two of the NFL preseason continues on Saturday with the Indianapolis Colts facing the Chicago Bears. The Bears won their first preseason game, while the Colts fell short in their first outing. Kickoff is Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The Bears got a victory in their first preseason game last Saturday, beating the Tennessee Titans 23-17 at home at Soldier Field. The Bears trailed 17-14 at halftime but pitched a shutout in the second half an came away with the victory. Justin Fields got the start at quarterback and he looked pretty good, throwing just three times, but two of those throws were touchdown passes. One was to his new receiver DJ Moore, a 62 yard strike, while the other was to Khalil Herbert, a 56 yard touchdown pass. Overall, Fields was 3-3 for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

This was all in the first quarter. Fields then handed the reins over to Nathan Peterman, Tyson Bagent, and PJ Walker. Peterman was the best of the backups, going 4 for 6 for 58 yards. On the ground, Rocshon Johnson, the rookie fourth round pick out of Texas, turned some heads with a strong performance. Johnson rushed for 44 yards, while veteran Travis Homer rushed for 25 yards and Herbert had 15 yards on the ground, in addition to his touchdown catch. DJ Moore did not play much in his debut, but made his presence known with one catch for 62 yards and a touchdown. The injury list is light with wide receiver Chase Claypool listed as questionable and tight end Jake Tonges on injured reserve.
